He SaidA Poem by Loren R LoveLoss and loveHe Said By L.R. Love “I love you” he said…. He stood at the bedroom door looking at her on the bed Walking softly across the floor, he got in and laid down his
head Reaching for the nightstand he turned off the light Then he lifted up his head, found her cheek and kissed her
goodnight. “I love you” he said …. “I have all my life I’m so lucky to have found you and to make you my wife You’ve been my world through all of these years” There was a lump in his throat as he whispered in her ear “I love you” he said …. “I remember the day I met you and when I asked you to be
mine When we had our first apartment and the way your smile
always shined All of our homes and how you warmed them with your touch Remember when I bought you the puppy, you hugged her so much” “I love you” he said …. “I loved our vacations and our place at the beach Forty summers in the sun, that’s sure hard to beat We were so blessed with all the material things But I’d trade it all away to start over with you again” “I love you” he said …. In the darkness he saw a tear run down her face He wiped it away with his finger and tightened his embrace He fought it but failed and a tear dropped from his eye “It’s ok honey”, he said, “Only love makes you cry” He grabbed her hand in his and squeezed it so tight Took a deep breath and closed his eyes for the night He started dreaming about all of the things he had said And how many times they had made love in that bed The morning light came through the curtains the next day But the hand still in his was now stiff, cold and gray The cancer had won and taken the love of his life Years of tears poured out as he looked at his wife “I love you” he said …. © 2013 Loren R Love |
