To them

To them

A Poem by Alexander D. May
"

A story about death. Which for all things, is inevitable. I right this to all who have died and all that will die. Especially, the ones close to you and I.

"
Skies turned a tint of gray
when you passed
We pretended and said,
 "Everything is okay"
But this facade could never last
Upon the fate of that morn
we sat and gasped
A feeling of dismay:
a state most forlorn
A day’s time,
we are still in dismay
Will it ever be similar
to the old days?
Far forgotten
are the days of your funeral
However, the joy you brought
will never be begotten
The days of our lives
flow along
But after all
Life must go on

In the second line "past" should be "passed" Past refers to things that have happened, passed refers to people "passing on". On a sidenote, I like saying they died better. they are dead. But that's just me. I always think of what my grandmother kept saying right after my grandfather died, "He didn't pass, by me in the night? Pass what? He died. He's dead. I didn't loose him? Loose him where, in the grocery store? He's dead. I know where he is."

I like the first line and I love the use of "tint of gray"

I liked the poem, especially in the last two stanzas.

Enchanting, with the lilting "old word" charm. Without being disrespectful of the bond and relationship, the poem progresses and the poetic persona deals with the fading away and moving on of life. Very compelling writing.

death of a loved one is sad. especially if the person who died is young. but life does go on. very good poem.
