In the Mirror

In the Mirror

A Poem by Purged of Sin
"

While people may think that being a twin is fun, it's not. It's really a constant struggle to find your own identity. Trust me, it's my reality.

"

Even though others may claim
That you and I are both the same,
The difference lies deep inside
A ribcage where our hearts abide.

Like Scott Joplin's Entertainer,
You're the amusing non-complainer.
You live a guilt-free life anew
Where nothing seems to bother you.

It seems that I am not so candid -
Social assemblies leave me stranded.
I cry so often, a world too heavy to bear,
And keep the secrets that I should share.

With corresponding red hair, grey eyes,
Our dignity built up through lies,
I see how we could be marked the same
When it's others who make the claim.

Author's Note

Purged of Sin
All the time, I hear people saying how awesome it would be to have a twin. They think it's all fun and games, that you can trick teachers and whatnot. It's not really like that, though. Most of the time, you don't even have a name - you're just "one of the twins". I know I'm not the most talented person in the world, nor am I stunningly beautiful, but... there's nothing worse than being somebody else's shadow. There's nothing worse than not having an identity.
