What This Love Has Done To Me

What This Love Has Done To Me

A Poem by Bethany Woody

Not strong enough
to stay away.
Can't help running back to you
like a moth to the flame.

Say my name
it doesn't sound the same.
Look into my eyes
I'm stripped of all pride.

Surrendeding to you
down on my knees.
Never been too proud
to beg for you.

It's killing me
that you're away.
And I'm so confused
I wanna leave, I wanna stay.

Can't choose
between the pleasure and the pain.
It's wrong, it's right
not sure I'll win the fight.

My heart overrules
my mind.
Don't want to be
left behind.

And I'm not strong enough
to stay away.
Can't help running back to you
like a moth to the flame.

For you my heart
knows no shame.
Doesn't mean
that I'm the one to blame.

My heart
is chained to you.
And there is
nothing that I wanna do.

Don't want
to be free.
I'm okay with
what this love has done to me.

Wow, in both poems of yours I've read, I have seen a pretty firm allusion to the guilty, destructive proclivity to pleasure. I'm not criticizing, I'm an adherent to the same school! You reveal painful truths in a way that most people, even if unfamiliar with your particular circumstance, they can relate to, which is always effective. Good job, again.

This poem shows your intent well. Good descriptions of the seesaw feelings and the wanting of what may not be good for you! Good write!
