The Night

The Night

A Poem by Bethany Woody

When I lay in the dark
and everyone is asleep
and there is nothing left to say
I listen tot he night.

She speaks to me
in whispered softness
of stolen dreams
and lost innocents.

She weeps silently
of pain and regret
for a life lost
to a broken heart.

And I cry too
just as silently
just as painfuly
we share our regret.

And in the dark
you sleep beside me
never knowing
never hearing the night.
