Swallowed My Pain

Swallowed My Pain

A Poem by Bethany Woody

Swallowed my pain

And pills from a bottle

With a fifth of Jack

Or maybe it was Jose

I can’t remember

And it doesn’t matter anyway.

Sitting here drifting

Through the motions

Of dying

No more crying

No longer alone

My demons have come to take me home.

Such sorrow I see

In the eyes of his lies

Reflected in the tears

From faces above

As everyone prays

To save me from hell filled days.

But hell can’t hurt me

I lived in it everyday

At the hands of a man

Supposed to love unconditionally

But not in the night when he came

To offer nothing but pain.

So I swallowed my pain

And pills from a bottle

With a fifth of Jack

Or maybe it was Jose

I can’t remember

And it doesn’t matter anyway.

Relating is not living the life of pain. I felt like tears were
going to well up inside me for this poem. My heart goes out
to a person that has to live or has lived in this way.

Very sad poem Beth. Thanks for sharing a part of you.

I know I can relate very well to this piece... we find pleasure in sinnful things to fill the void.

But hell can't hurt me
I lived in it everyday

Ahhh and I know this all to well...

and intense and emotional piece.
