Ghosts of The Past

Ghosts of The Past

A Poem by Bethany Woody

They hide in back alleys

in shadows and darkness

only creeping out to spy on me

in my dreams and

subconscience hours.

They stare mutely

from the other side of life

yet they are not dead

they do not eat

do not sleep

do not cry or feel.

They simply wait,

wait for me.

Last night they tired of waiting

they came for me

shyly calling my name

I ran from them

desperate to escape.

there was no place to hide

you can never hide

from the ghost of the past

I love it when I naturally pause after reading a poem. I have not read any of your stories yet maybe because I don't have a choice due of my love for poems. Your voice is three-dimensional. And the past becomes a Quilt, a dark rose of your mind. This is the best work I have read in a long time. It's PROFESSIONAL trust me.

Oh so true the things that we leave lying there in the back of our minds seem to find their way back to the light and sit there as a reminder of something else. Something that was there before the person that we are now was even thought of being. SOmething you can never escape completely from.

A very wonderful and haunting tell of seeing the shadows as more than just shadows.

Wonderful Job!!!

Haunting. I was talking about this very thing today with somebody. She feels the same as you. While I disagree with her and you, this was an extremely well written piece. Very heartfelt and to the point. Nice piece.
