Product of One Night

This was written after I realized "I was not the poem"...

She thought that she was doing only what was right

How did she end up this way the product of one night?
The decision wasn’t hard to make once she felt what was inside

But now she sits and second guesses the hard and lonely ride

 

What was she f*****g thinking it all would be alright?

Cause now her life revolves around the product of one night

 

The reactions all were good ones, with support from all around

She said she’d make it on her own, cause he could not be found

They all would lend a helping hand and make it be okay

So why is she now struggling to make it through each day?

 

What was she f*****g thinking, it all would be alright

Cause now her life revolves around the product of one night

 

She has a house and pays the bills, her car still runs just fine

It’s watching the world pass her by, benched on the sideline

It’s not the stress or work or cries that make her go insane

It’s when she had to lock away her dreams inside her brain

 

What was she f*****g thinking, it all would be alright

Cause now her life revolves around the product of one night

 

Author's Note

Natalie Goldberg has a great book called "Writing Down the Bones" One chapter deals with - Not the poem - meaning just be cause you write it, doesn't mean that's how you feel. It took me a long time to realize I was not the poem. This is the result of that discovery. "It�s watching the world pass her by, benched on the sideline" - Was the line the wrote the poem.
