My One True Love

My One True Love

A Poem by Caleb

My one true love

You wake me in the morning dread;

You revive in those once thought dead.

You quicken pace, you speed the time;

Beauty unleashed, cleansing all grime.

So it appears, when one first glance;

Appealing lure, when given chance.

In you a fault, like all the rest;

Destroying lives, I can attest.

Oh how you are so innocent;

When time so close is imminent.

You coat yourself, sugary sweet;

Not I resist, my morning treat?

In you I am a mindless thrall;

Awaiting for my master’s call.

Morning glory, to shine and rise,

To be ensnared by half-truth lies.

You are to me, water and bread;

Like sheep to die, I have been led.

It starts off sounding like it might be a beloved person, but then we soon get the idea that the adored subject is a sugary morning treat, worshipped as some do coffee! *smile* I like the inference that this splurge may not be so great for one's health, but since it's the reason you get out of bed, it's a necessary evil. I have chronic pain & sweets can be my favorite pain killer! *smile*

I'm wondering if (3rd stanza/2nd line), you might mean "imminent"?
