Castaways on Asphalt RoadsA Poem by Psychotic LilyWe are isolated when we couldn't follow the norm #notosuicideCigarette butts littered the ground Booze sending fires down my throat In white powder, dreams I found All was left was a suicide note: All my life I was lost at sea A castaway that never found home No island was there where I could be Dangerous waters I lonely roam Then a huge wave capsizes the boat I couldn’t keep the secrets on board The truth spills out, I try to stay afloat Anger’s an acid on my heart was poured I was walking down an asphalt road Paved by my parents’ good intentions But then I found myself in crossroads There wasn’t a choice nor a decision No one could accept what I have become I never wanted or wished to be this way Only deviants gave me a warm welcome I am losing myself and turning gray But a dauntless one held on and refused to let go He who swam miles to pull me out of the water And said that asphalt isn’t where flowers grow Yet I slapped his hand away like he didn’t matter I’m sorry for becoming me For being a waste of space For being what I couldn’t be And for losing my saving grace This poem was written for a class project, and I'm really proud that my friends did an amazing job on the advocacy video against suicide.
