thoughts at work on a boring wednesday that feels like a tuesdayA Poem by Simon Welsh...The art of writing is romanticized. It's not some bullshit quirky aspect where first drafts are perfect, reviews are complimentary and your audience is crying out for more. It's forcing yourself to write instead of procrastinating. It's trying not to seek validation when you really, really want it. It's about writing something Goddamn awful, redrafting it and making a passable story. You do it again and again until you get better. Anyone who tells you otherwise has never been honest with themselves and thus, will never improve as a writer. If you want to romanticize it, then fine. But no one likes a liar. Lessons of Life: 1- Spite corrodes the soul. 2- The universe doesn't you anything. 3- If you spend hours on Facebook, you will be depressed. 4- You don't need anyone to 'complete' you. 5- Use your alone time effectively. 6- Fan Fiction doesn't count as writing. Ever. 7- When writing, listen to something that's at least an hour long. You'll lose good ideas when deciding on what song to pick next.
