Mahogany Sky, Black SeaA Poem by Simon WelshSometimes I wish I had a broken heart so what I felt could be justified
I set sail when the sky was mahogany
and the rain cast us in a dull glow I was happy to let the waves crash rather than stabilize the possessions I had I knew the old sun had burned out but I left my homeland anyway Leaving any chance of happiness to wither and fade The greatest tragedy is knowing your story had already been written and nothing you'll do will ever make any impact at all Sometimes I wish I had a broken heart so what I felt could be justified But instead I'll watch the skyline refuse to change while the clouds swell with collective tears I know I've made things worse but I just can't bear to look back You will have moved on by the time I return I'm not enslaved by any misery potion rather I'm just so sick and tired of everything I'll stay here on this black ocean waiting for the land that will never appear Perhaps it is written otherwise but dying for a life held in calloused hands is not my idea of happiness © 2014 Simon WelshFeatured Review
