Just a Lost Soul

Just a Lost Soul

A Poem by Simon Welsh
"

I cannot hold the weight of the world upon my shoulders so why does everyone dump their problems upon me?

"
This sullen land of expectation
Don't judge me by my passive stance
I don't label what is a human
I'm no do-gooder; I just don't care about such things

These are the best years of my life or so they say
Yet I am not beautiful enough for the camera
I am not fashionable and I am sure I will never be
so why act as though that is some sort of crime
I'm just a writer trying to keep ahead of the pain
but who cares, I'll be anonymous before long
My only hope is that I am not forgotten

This sullen land of supposed equality
demands labels for everyone with a pulse
I'll treat you all the same but yet
some tend to be more equal than others

I cannot hold the weight of the world upon my shoulders
so why does everyone dump their problems upon me?
If I love then why does that lead some to hate??
Is it so bad I could truly be happy?
I'm just a lost soul trying to remember enjoyment
but who cares, it's your opinion that apparently matters?
My only hope is that you won't hurt me...

Because these golden times are few and far between
Stealing my sunshine will do nothing but offend me
There comes a time when I'll need to be harsh
but please... don't make me feel the need
Yes, sometimes I drink to much
but I mean well... just let me be happy
Don't steal my smile

Beautiful melancholy. This poem says what I have often felt. I think there is truth that there are givers and takers. Those who dump on others are takers. But they dont realize that the givers or receivers often dont have anything left because it's all been taken, I love the lines "This sullen land of supposed equality
demands labels for everyone with a pulse" and your final stanza is a fitting bittersweet ending. Well written :)

Nah, with the quality you write with, it will be a VERY long time before you're ever forgotten Bhiney. Simplistic but sad. Well written.

I really like this. The simpleness of small things is under appreciated and smiles are blessings to be counted. Nicely penned.
