Rain

Rain

A Poem by Simon Welsh
"

I was joyous once but I grew out of it

"
Don't you love the sadness we all commit to?
Look at all the lousy friends I have
I wish for the rain and all it's glories
to wash away all notions of stupid happiness

I was joyous once but I grew out of it
I was soaked to the bone as the storm rolled in
praying that I'll never so stupid ever again

Wasted yet another day of freedom
or did I save myself from being in your company?
I wish for the rain and the numb reward
to cut out the depression within me

I was joyous once but I grew out of it
I was soaked to the bone as the storm rolled in
praying that I'll never so stupid ever again

So thank you for wasting my time
So thank you for proving me right
So thank you for all the bullshit
I won't ever bother again

I sense a conflict within the hero. There is a past and there is a future, but the present is a mystery.
the rain acts as the cleaner, the cleanser. It get rids of all sorts, bad and good.
wishful thinking, will the rain take away the depression within?

There is so much feeling in this. I really like this, especially this line:
"I was joyous once but I grew out of it"

I love the repetition of the second verse, and the flow of the poem.
