Dead on Arrival

Dead on Arrival

A Poem by Simon Welsh
"

Any excuse is still just a f*****g excuse

"
Dead on Arrival but conscious enough
to tie off your arm and kiss those veins goodbye
Too shallow to reason and too dumb to think
that any excuse is still just a f*****g excuse

Craving that rush that makes it all worthwhile
Hiding under a mess of make up and lies
Kiss the bottle but it swallows you whole
Last Will and Testament of the alcoholic, oh

Dead on Arrival but conscious enough
to tie off your arm and watch those veins turn black
Too shallow to reason and too dumb to consider
that yesterdays pain will poison you tomorrow

The 90's made heroin seem so dull
All those innocent thoughts led
to the startling realisation that
this world ain't what it's cracked up to be
Ain't life grand?

I really like how you repeated the first stanza but changed words to it. A nice write, I like these parts:

"Craving that rush that makes it all worthwhile"

"All those innocent thoughts led
to the startling realisation that
this world ain't what it's cracked up to be"

Yeah. A good poem. I understand this from the sixties and seventies. Nothing changes except the people lying to themselves and taking it the easy way.

Good work.

Crushing, brutal truths yet strange how we can look into the eyes of people around us and see these words reflected with the pain in we'll find in them. So deep and powerful. Love this my friend for it brings even us down to the small decree that we as humans are. Though as it stands behind all of our own makeup is the tiniest will to continue despite the fact 'this world ain't what it's cracked up to be'. Absolutely adore this x
