My Friend Tracey Holmes

My Friend Tracey Holmes

A Poem by Dwain Dowdy
"

Lost friendship rekindled

"

Through the passage of time,
Everyone of us has changed.
It may not always be visible,
But our lives have been rearranged.

Well, every so often, a reminder stands out,
We remember how things used to be.
It cuts through all our gloom and doubt,
And that's exactly what happened to me.

Tracey Holmes is a girl I knew,
A very very long time ago.
We were the bestest when we were in school,
Yet, again, time had taken it's toll.

Then one day she suddenly appeared,
As if from right out of the blue.
I didnt believe my eyes when i saw her,
But after she hugged me, my heart knew!

So, now she's back and life feels good,
My dear friend has finally come home!
My heart is happy to have her back,
You heard me, that's my friend,Tracey Holmes.

What's interesting about this well-crafted vignette is that you hardly tell us anything ABOUT her . . . her appearance, how she walks, talks, why she's returned, etc. This poem is totally in the realm of the sensory (which is what I often encourage new poets to do . . . don't be cerebral, pay attention to how all the senses feel!) You've conveyed a palpable sense of being excited in a childlike way, as if the narrator was transported back to a youthful time when this old friend shows up! Your sincerity is refreshing in our usually-jaded world (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
