Outside Looking In

Outside Looking In

A Poem by Dwain Dowdy
"

My true witness of friends relationship

"
We have Billy Joe and Bobbie Sue,
And also Jack and Diane.
Made famous for their love affairs
Very fictitious but grand.

Well I'm going to tell a brand new story,
That every word is true.
A tale that started way down in Florida,
At a drive-thru for fast food.

Dill was a young man , driven by goals,
With something missing in his life.
Jenn's a young woman scarred and bruised,
Really needing her knight to come by.

Nothing but fate or random luck
Could pair these two by chance.
With curiosity fed after that first meet
They had planted the seeds for romance

One of them leery, and needing brass tacks
the other a man of happenstance.
She has children and issues of trust
And he feels the desire to advance

Later, this road became very very rocky,
But only maybe a time or five.
Thinking about her moving on without him
Was enough to steady his stride.

All of this occurred a lifetime ago
Im sure they'd both agree.
With the passing of time they're world became sublime.
Soulmates, they forever would be.

So they continued this journey together as one
And found great comfort in their lives
But Florida couldnt hold them in its embrace
Wanderlust had changed their minds.

Kentucky bound, their new found plan
Only desiring the change of pace
As the task of settling brought some doubt
They moved to Deep Wood with grace.

On several occassions I've witnessed their dance
Balancing children, work and play
I find myself caught up in their world
Only desiring my own soulmate.

Of Dill, you cannot outwork, or outplay.
His love for life is huge.
Of Jenn, her beauty is seductively loud
Addicting, how I describe these two.

As I lay my pen down to end this tale
I leave you these final words
Their happiness was never given to them
Only through true love was it earned.

This is dedicated to
Dill and Jenn Bradberry.
2 very special people who have influenced my life deeply.
Love you both!
