Unwritten and slow but more perfect than not

Unwritten and slow but more perfect than not

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

It takes some time

To be free and sane

Moments can stretch for decades

Turning hellos into novels

Making the handshakes of strangers

Into handcuff grips that last forever

Some shockwave romances

Can break through glass windows

And the sound of triumph can pass unheard

Our love is this at its lowest common denominator

Unwritten and slow

But more perfect than not.

At times we are ugly and shattered and jagged

But always true.

My mismatched clothing inner child

Your man before your time heart

Will find that our fates share much

A lust for life

And fears of flying.

And most importantly the spaces in heart

That match the pieces of the stars

Left behind by grandparents who loved us.

We will find each other someday.

Covered in years spent

Trying to get it right

The world will hush and still

Because the cyclone met the hurricane

At the moment the rainbow came.
