Wrapped Up In LighteningA Poem by Sarah McKeever Hittanother I wrote for my brother. I feel like this is what he and his wife's first meeting must have been like. She came to me like a tornado
Wrapped up in lightening
And when I tried to walk upto her
Her storm knocked me to the ground
And I fell in love.
Even though she was only a few feet away
The hours it took me to walk to her
Brought me back to when I was a kid
And I was dirty and bad and late for curfew
And something told me she’d like me that way
So I walked into her world and fought back against the wind
Grabbed her by the mind and told her
“Take out a pen and write this down in your diary
Because every little girl wants to remember when
They meet their king and from this moment on you are royalty”
She stared me in the eyes for hours that were really seconds
The sparks in our hands igniting fires in our hearts
Burning down walls and trees and all the ghosts of the past
In the moment she fell in love me in return. © 2012 Sarah McKeever Hitt |
