Sleep Still On My Brain

Sleep Still On My Brain

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

Sleep still on my brain

Your smell still on my skin

The coffee brewing in the kitchen

And the note you left me on the nightstand

Broke my heart

Because you are gone

And I am not sure if you are coming back

I live on faith that your key will find it’s way back to my door

This morning’s air calls me a fool because you didn’t say good bye

As you snuck out as I slept.

You promised me you would burn for me

That nothing would put my love out of favor

Then why didn’t you kiss me awake?
