loud bars and broken glass dreams

loud bars and broken glass dreams

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

Baby, listen to me, I know a thing or two about life

and I know that when I look at you I see neon lights

Things that bright have no business being quiet

and I can see you all the way in my room

in the middle of the night

Pay attention to me tonight

in the day light I like to hide

you see, there is something freeing in the shadows

and I have perfected seeing in the dark.

So what do we do about this?

More aptly, what I am really asking is

why two forces like us are so far apart

when the world wants us to change it.

We are posed to take our fists and break all those glass rules

we are not clear and shiny people and our story

is full of bulletholes and burned bridges

but we find each other,

or at least we will

if I am reading this correctly.

I hope to God your soul doesn't give up on glitter

and I hope that my mind doesn't stop me from wanting you.
