In the time between.A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt4dfsIn the times between Betwixt the inevitable and the might one day be Comes a time for you and me. Prophesized and held at high worth Panhandled down to cheap tin by the every man I can still hear you singing. “You are the most beautiful breath I can take Don’t leave me gasping” As I walked fifteen feet behind you As you walked backwards, facing me. The pleading made me laugh The eyes you gave broke my cold streak And I would have sworn we were meant for An ever after, happy. I am not sure if I am wrong about you and me But something doesn’t feel right about the way the sun hits the car doors As I close it before I pull away from you. Maybe I shouldn’t think so much, maybe I should just be still But it is hard to breath when I am thinking about you And even worse when I have no idea what I am doing. I could write a song for a rock singer, who will scream your name in my honor But let’s face it, I won’t because I don’t know the first thing about love And I was never a musician anyway, I just tell the stories. And this one is ours, and ours is unfinished Or maybe it is just as it is written to be By the man with the magic pen Who waits for us in the time between. © 2011 Sarah McKeever HittReviews
