Fleeting spark.

Fleeting spark.

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

When you stood naked in front of your bathroom mirror

and scoped out the wrinkles on your face

did it occur to you at that moment that you let me slip away

When you went to the store to buy whatever it was

and the cashier handed you a pen to sign your check

did you stop for a split second and wish I shared your name

well I doubt it because you had your chance to claim me

and I know now that no matter what I would have said,

you still would have let me walk away.

No matter how many times I can ask whether you missed me

I know the answer is always going to be no.

The issue is mine, and I put my hope in imaginary words

that I write for people to criticize and offer sympathy for.

That is what I do best, gloss up the man you are

and make our love into something more than what it was

so I shall keep asking these questions and keep wishing

that someday you will answer them how I want you to

And I know you won't even know I wrote these things about you

because for you I was just a fleeting spark

put out by the breeze.

If it's the case...the man's a fool. I tend to review as I see it. The poem is whistful, sad and shows just what a damn mess people make when they don't think of the people who mater. The words themselves are raw with power and strength. The beat and flow structured like a dance move. A perfect blend of 'music' and emotion.

This feels like it's been written from behind a curtain, kind of disconnected from you. I can really relate, it's so simply put and real
