For the rain, alone, I am sorry

For the rain, alone, I am sorry

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

The momentum is building,

behind stone grey clouds

A storm.

Inevitable.

I see you standing on the corner

of the street

Intact and falling apart,

waiting, and patiently at that.

I turn my head away from you

noticing, though you do not

you have holes in your umbrella

]

holes that let the water touch you

as the storm washes away your peace.

For the rain alone, I am sorry.
