Darkness

Darkness

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

Is it just me,
or at night, when
I turn out the lights
and open the window to
explore the twilight
the darkness screams of you?
I can only imagine
what the night would proclaim
if I questioned boldly
that which neither of us say
So I stand at attention
to keep from being too obvious
in those raging moments
when neither of us say a word.

Isn't it amazing how everything looks and feels and is altogether different in the darkness than in the light? That is when the memories and thoughts and feelings that we block out in the sun's light begin to creep back to us and invade our thoughts. That is when we most often confront our darkest feelings as well. You have done well with your imagery to convey your point of view on these things in this piece. Your word choice is eloquent, and your imagery poignant, though I think it could be strengthened with a few more concrete images. What "raging moments" are keeping you awake? Great potential...thanks for the read.
