Into your plan.

Into your plan.

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

I felt the weight of your stares on my shoulders,

exposed in the dim lights of the room.

I held my breath as you walked over to me,

and whispered how lovely I looked.

It made me feel like w***e

like I would do anything you wanted

if you had only asked.

But of course you didn’t.

My husband stood oblivious

enthralled in his gin with no idea

that while he was smiling at me,

I was thinking about your hands on my skin.

My mind raging in the lust you put on me,

kept hidden as he grabbed my hand.

Introducing himself because I could not,

on the night I fell into your plan.

You have the courage to write about the complexity and selfishness of the human heart. That's a great gift.
This poem brings the reader right into the room with you, makes them nearly believe in the helplessness of "falling" into his plan. I really enjoy the almost dispassionate way you present the scene and your own nearly disconnected involvement into it. Good work.
