Forget me not

Forget me not

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

My life is full of forget me not’s

grasped in my hands like crutches

shown to you with the utmost respect

and dignity as I stand before you.

I cling to fragments

so you see that I remember

tempting you to tell me likewise

as our eyes meet on your terms.

I am never more indignant

standing here calling you out

on the words you spoke to my ghost

when you thought no one noticed.

I still feel that day

all the mystery you won't get back from me

when you all but yelled at me

In a time when we were strangers.
