Redeemer

Redeemer

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

The moment raged,

as did the look you gave me,
staring me down

as I turn away.
You didn’t think I saw,
but I have eyes in the back of my head.

How dare you assume

that I thought only of myself
and not of how my words cut you.

I know how sharp I can be.

Forgive me if I don't turn around
because I can’t stand to look  back at you

Cover your wounds with someone else
because I can’t be your redeemer anymore.
