A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt
"

Someday I will read this at her wedding.

"
She is my friend and please be fragile with her
Be a man that we all know you can be even on your worst day
Show her that she was not just another fleeting thought
and that your hands long to touch her even after all this time
Treat her like that girl that you met all those seconds ago
never forget how your heart shuttered when you finally found out her name
and keep in your minds eye the way she looks at you when she doesn't think you are looking
hold her hand in the quiet moments when you don't think you need to
and tell her how lucky you are to be the one she chose without knowing why
And never assume that you don't have to because she already knows.
Be the exception to the rules and stay with her during the shaky times
and rebuild the foundation if it were to crack under the pressure
Don't hold back when you feel like you are moving too fast but
at the same time don't get frustrated if she trys to stop you
Keep in the back of your head that a girl can't help it
and know that you are there to show her it is ok to.
Read the details of what she doesn't tell you and
don't expect her to do the same for you
For this is an unconventional love for two unconventional souls
and all that you thought you knew means nothing.
And when you go to sleep, go to sleep to dream
and when you wake, kiss her and tell her that you are the luckiest man alive.
