Don't make me tell you

Don't make me tell you

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

Stop trying to make me tell you

I can't and there is no way that can change

Things are not that simple anymore

and there is nothing I can do.

All of your pinpointing of emotion is wearing me out

and I don't have the heart to tell you

that we can never do that again.

The moments with you that I remember are not appropriate.

The way you cringed when I complimented you

how your laughter made me feel more like a success than most things

how I would have given anything to be the person you saw when you look at me.

Even if I can only imagine what those moments were like,

I can't allow them rememberence.

So please don't make me tell you

Don't make me tell you how I can't be what you need.

Things are not that simple anymore

and I am only the person you remember when I think of you.
