It's almost as if

It's almost as if

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

It's almost as if nothing had happened.

Like ten years hadn't gone by in silence.

Like I didn't run as far away from here as I possibly could.

It's almost as if nothing had happened.

It's almost like I had forgotten.

Like I pushed away the sound of your voice.

Like I didn't know that you thought the world of me.

It's almost like I had forgotten.

It's almost as though I made it up.

Like I concocted this all while I dreamed.

Like I developed an elaborate hoax.

It's almost as though I made it up.

It's almost too much to understand.

This did happen.

I remember now

And it's almost too much to understand.
