Brutal

Brutal

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

I asked for truth.

you gave it

No coddling

no softness.

your brutality

my vulnerability

Together as planned by god

I couldn't hold back

you didn't hold back

A victim you wouldn't let me be.

I tried to be coy

you said "not this time

you want answers

I will give you answers."

You were hard.

You were bold

Most of all you were heard.

Unsolicited questions.

Who was I to ask?

Why would I expect anything less.

Lines crossed by tortured feet

We can never go back.

We will never go back.

Thank you.

A mute point,

but none the less.
