Tony sang Buckley

Tony sang Buckley

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

Overly prepared for this upheaval

I sat alone in a smokey bar

watching that man from LA sing Halleluah

I tried to picture my life with my other love

All I saw was you.

Reason and morality on the barstool next to me

I fell in love with you again.

Boundaries are down

Fancies flying free.

I am amazed.

Scenes played out in technicolor

As Tony Sang Buckley

And I swooned

And I cried

And I loved you unbridled

Unrestricted.

For a moment I was close to God,

For a moment I could breathe.

The final note came and I crashed.

Smoky air couldn't hide solitude

No music to trick me into forgetting

You are not mine
