As yet unsent

As yet unsent

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

My dear love

It has been far too many hours since we have changed the future

Where has the time gone?

Are you happy with where your life has gone?

Do you smile at the greeting of the morning and thank god for being alive?

Do your daily routines leave you fulfilled and accomplished

Are you living the dream we used to talk about?

I hope so.

I hear you are married now.

Do you get butterflies at the sight of her?

Did you mean the vows you promised each other before God and your family?

Is she your ideal in every possible way?

Do you see yourself having children together

Does she listen to your wildest dreams?

Is she supportive and loving when your world crashes?

I hope so.

I have always wanted nothing but the truest happiness for you.

I knew that you were more than I could handle and understand back then.

Do you know that every decision I make has your thumbprint on it?

Did you know the power you had over me a million breaths ago?

It should make you proud to know you were a driving force in me.

I modeled my humor and my sense of self on those words long since silenced.

You realize all this don't you?

I hope so.

I am going to end this now.

I am finally at a place where I can rest my mind about you.

That feat took years and I feel like I have finally accomplished my goal.

There aren't many people who I have to thank for this.

I am glad to be able to tell you all of these things.

In the future we can toast to our conquering the world.

Will we do it as old allies with the purest form of friendship?

I hope so.
