temporary

temporary

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

The sky is purple again
winds eclipsed by blossoming branches
whose buds are closing for the long night ahead.
This Wednesday makes 10 and the birds remind me
how all of our world was just temporary.

From the breezy headstrong smiles
to the exaggerated exhaustion I felt
while I tried so hard to make believe that you were a hero
rather than just temporary.

I am sorry that I dreamed bigger than you
and more so I am sorry that you weren't more
but the times state clearly that you have moved to love
while I sit behind hoping that this ache is temporary

Because if it is not then I give up
about to jump into a life where I simply walk
with no purpose but to dwell in my silly sparkly world
that you took the throne in to reign in the temporary.

But what can I say about that
other than today was long and gorgeous
and the sky is fading purple with trees and birds
and all my heartbreak seems, if just for a moment, to be temporary.
