Pauperlike regal romance.

Pauperlike regal romance.

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

If there was ever a question of my affections for you,
I would not be able to answer other than to say

"From start of day until close of night,
you are the best part of this time around in flesh
and it is beyond my station to try to deny you.

Sure, true as it may be,
you may not be the king of all of everything
But you are the emperor of my silly heart and all it encompasses
So, there's that
and to some, that is a lot.

I insist you take your throne and scepter my lord
My lady like fancy will follow you to war,
no matter how long and wasteful it seems
Because, well, how could it not, when I am in your charge
and our romance is as regal as it is round and full

And I couldn't love you more."

Pauperlike, in the title, should be two words.
