i love you

i love you

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

I love you.
I don't know if any other words are true.
I grow tired of writing poetic phrases
And even more weary knowing,
That as loud as my pen can be,
My voice might as well be muted by loud drums
Because you are no where within earshot of me.

I love you
Regardless of distance or circumstance.
I don't care if that makes me seem a crazy little girl
Or if people who know me best are shaking their fists
Trying to make me realize that life is more than
Slumber pictures of fanciful wedding dresses
Worn in the middle of July in the early evening.

Those words of warning are nothing more than pale noise
That doesn't mean much of anything to me.
You see once a woman's heart is focused
And under ownership of he who is meant to share her soul
No naysayer can be heard over the loudest admission
Of the simplest of truths
Such as the one I make right now
I love you.
