Aloud in the wind

Aloud in the wind

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

Inside scribbled journals
among day dreams and love
shines a word like no other
I wrote it for you

to hear in the night
aloud in the wind
striking blows to your days
that you are spending without me

I can wait for years
Until the day
when the fresh paint chips on your door
and the dust covering your windows
stops the sunshine from coming in

On that day
I will say the word I wrote for you
and your long still heart will beat
at tempos it has not known in years
causing you no other course of action
but to start back on your way to me.
