Seperate Hearts

Seperate Hearts

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

My fated fable heart breathes icy mist

Watching over my sleeping eyes

Will it bring them sensory memory

Of your hands on my face?

Stroking away the timid fears I hold

While the strength of God keeps

Trying to make me falter before your feet.

The nightingale songs of our separate hearts

Are louder than the thunder boom that would be

If we were at last meant to hold each other until sleep.

But today there is silence
