I'm older
I can taste it
In my coffee
The way I need less sugar
The way I add less cream
In my sweets
How I like them to be paired
With something bitter
To be balanced
The balance is important
It changes sometimes
Like in life
Just as coffee is bitter
But I like it now
Being responsible has been
Scary
In elementary school,
Middle school was old
Then I was there,
And high school was old
Then I finished that,
And in college
It isn't old either
I'm younger
Than I've ever been
When I stare at the future
In 33 days
I will be older by a year
Except I'm not
Not really
It's been a slow
Slow
Journey
Every day was new
Fresh
I didn't always do well
It wasn't always bad
I wonder how
Graduation will feel
Like elementary school?
Middle school?
High school?
Something new?
It's weird
I think time is passing
Faster than it ever has before
My birthday is coming up in a month and three days. Nothing will change, but I feel the tilting of the sky and it makes me think about the way the stars blur together when you take a long exposure photo.

Time does pass quickly. The older you get, the more that sinks in. You are wondering how graduation will be, that tells me you have time on your side. Enjoy your coffee. I don’t drink coffee, the taste too bitter for my palette. My advice, enjoy every moment of your existence. We aren’t here for long.
I feel the tilting in the sky
That line in your author’s notes is exceptional.

I remember one quote that said "I'm here for a good time, not a long time," and I'm beginning to feel that. And I got into coffee when I was far too young to be drinking it- my mom worked at a coffee shop. So I've had years to grow into it.
Those words just came to the top of my head out of nowhere when I was writing the note, so I added it. Inspiration comes at strange moments.

Be thankful for the inspiration. Doesn’t come to me often these days:)
it's a fascinating exploraton of mid-life crisis. noticing the small canges you make unconsciously and the dread that comes with another year towards the grave, something i'm sure everyone's experienced. i think i'm good though. i know what to live for.

The moment you notice the time has passed, it's already too late. Then one day, you're dead. It's terrifyingly brutal but simultaneously it's beautiful in a twisted, convoluted way. I'm glad you know what to live for! I hope I can find that purpose someday.
When we get to an age when more years are behind us than in front time seems to gather speed with every passing day. Enjoy your younger years because they will be gone in a trice.
Enjoyed the read

As you age, your sense of time changes. It goes faster. This is because you know on some level that you have less of it left. It's something like supply and demand.

The days blur together as they resemble each other more. Then one day you look back and realize how much you've lost, and then look forward to find less than you started with. This blinking and finding yourself so far forward in time is the reason it feels fast. Even excitement can blur into nothing as the years pile on together through so many emotions. Except maybe the anticipation of death. Something inevitable like death is terrifying in the way it is patient and all consuming. Yet, for some reason, that is also why it is so comforting to me. For a fictional, immortal character, I can't imagine the feeling of "waking up" and it's been a hundred years, and everyone they know is dead. It makes the time I have feel valuable. I know it will end, so I have to do my best.
I think from here forward when I have a point to make, I will proclaim as evidence, "I can taste it in my coffee." It will be more of a mic-drop for me than your sweet introspection.
Oh, and your author's note is a balanced little poetic pairing for your entry. Bravo and happy birthday.

I'm glad you liked it :) it was just a random thought that came out right when I was writing the note, but it fit so well I even added a picture for it. Thank you!
I've been writing since I was young, I'm in college, and I'm wanting advice on how to improve my writing. Compliments are nice too.
