Rabid

Rabid

A Poem by Prynka
"

Recently I read a article about a 7 year old child who died of Rabies. Rabies is such a deadly disease and so much of suffering both for the infected animal and to anyone who gets infected. This inspi

"

To the mother

who lost her child

for the reasons that weren't wild

just had they walked to a place of worship

to fade away their life's hardships

mother and child the duo were returning

they met a stray pup playing

they jumped, they played

Joyfully a bite was made

Tiny drop of blood oozed

Nothing in her mind then snoozed

they came back home

Band-Aid was stuck and no tantrums were thrown

in the night the fever rose

shivers, colds and coughs roared

Parents rushed their child to the doctor

many observations, tests and x-rays were put on motor

medicines changed

doses changed

child was caged

with syrups, syringes and the tension raged

Doctors were questioned

from juniors  to seniors

anxiety, drooling, excess salivation

how much can one take without any notification

the child took his last breath

giving a tight slap to the science wreath

Rabies is a disease so fatal

the infection spreads without any rattle

one more battle lost

one more life tossed

hoping for another science miracle

another disease to be eradicated and tackled.

Thank you Richard. Thanks for your time and kind words.
It's very unusual to write about rabies. You've done a vivid job describing how it might look & feel thru-out the experience of dying from a rabid dog bite. If you are interested in reading a short book with a similar artful treatment of a story where rabies is central to the story, try: "Their Eyes Were Watching God" by Zora Neale Hurston . . . it's a quick read and a classic. The only thing missing from your extensive description of rabies --> the thirst . . . I believe the thirst is what really marks the whole slobbering, choking experience, needing to swallow but not being able to swallow. I think such details could intensify your description on this aspect . . . the rest of your description is nicely vivid (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

What a gripping tale of a gritty reality of life! Rabies and several other pathogenic diseases can just have the power to eliminate life. In the face of human evolution and progress it is moments like this that you realize you are still vulnerable. Very well written.
