Confessions of a Compulsive-Think Ostrich

Confessions of a Compulsive-Think Ostrich

A Poem by Pryde Foltz

Sometimes you just gotta stick up your noggin ..

Confessions of a Compulsive-Thinking Ostrich

In this episode, we take a poetic look at compulsive thinking and the emotional static it can cause. Should we just stick out head in the sand and clear the thoughts with silent noise; or can we find healing and balance and aim higher but together. Join me as I discuss enlightenment and voice the Poems Wrinkled and Wired, the Ostrich and the Lion, and Brave Aviator.

As always for those of you who prefer to read, there is also a poem posted below; just keep on scrolling.

Wrinkled and Wired

intelligence

a wrinkled forehead

ripples through a briny pond

awash in a lake of acetylcholine

waves and wells

drowning in grey matter

superconducting

in a cosmological

spacetime ocean

convergence

yes, we agree

you must be right

because otherwise

I'd be wrong

divergence

let's just concur to dis-occur

I can't afford the loss of quotient points

keep my membership

among the high brow, high-wired

bespectacled and bemused

self-identified smarty pants

I recommend rubber soles

beneath your wing tips, Icarus

that way you stay grounded

avoid electrocution

why the frown …

why the sparks …

concentration

consternation

remembrance

don't you like to think

beep, beep, static, beep

This makes me think of a conversation with someone who is rigid in thinking and unable to conceive of the possibility that there is always more to learn. One who feels above others in intelligence and perhaps casually belittles others.

Sometimes I think humility is a sign of a developed intelligence. The ability to listen and constantly be cultivating curiosity. The world is so full of information and discovery—even in daily conversations—that rigidity can be intellectually stifling.

I am guilty of grossly overthinking most everything. It can be excruciating at times. There is a degree of self-awareness in that vortex of activity as well. Seems your poem speaks to finding a balance where we can be open to the thoughts of others and not too lost in our own minds. I do think achieving that balance would be a great thing. I appreciate the complexity of your ideas in poetry.

Your poem reflects on how intelligence can lead to both enlightenment and confusion, and how social dynamics influence our perceptions of intelligence.

Intelligent writing Pryde, in mind we are all composers conducting our thoughts to communicate, to share, long live language.

Indeed. Thank you so much, Andrew:)
An amazing take on intelligence and how we all are so unique....we agree to disagree...I don't think we should stick our head in the sand, but we should we be flexible in our thinking.... your words are perfect and the context very creative indeed.... thank you for sharing
Warmly,
B.

Do you ever just sit and scribble your thoughts, as they zip through your mind and then go back to them later and look at the almost impossible route they all took, with only one point on the map in connection.... you!
I find it a very calming thing to do and then think about why those thoughts were thought. Sometimes it is more fun than the thoughts themselves to see if you can find another correlation amongst them. 😃
Last time I done it, some of my thoughts ranged from "Did Charlie Chaplin ever think to get rid of the 'tache when he found out Hitler was a fan" to "why does sherbert make you smile and reminisce about the child you used to be?"
Then races to something else like "I wish I'd bought those shoes when they were on sale" to "why are Canadians from Canada and not Canadia?"
And to think, it all comes from that big mass of goo in our heads!
And ps... yes, I blame all the thoughts I have for my wrinkled forehead too! 😃
