The Monsters We Conquer

In this edition of my poetry audio blog, I discuss the nature of reality, or at least the one we can perceive. It is another spacey, mystical journey. We start at Venus, return to Earth, to stalk the elusive white whales, and finally travel within. I read the poems the Sylph Sings, the White Whale, and From Nightmare to Lucidity. The delivery is soothing and ASMR style.

The Sylph Sings

a fiery, fickle, and shifting façade

keeps would-be explorers and pilgrims

at bay, their desires turned elsewhere

there are easier landing sights

other virtues to be claimed

alluring and dusty glory

where the red will flow

for those who wish to be first

the god of war is surprisingly easy 

to pillage and plunder

where’s the fun of planting a flag

in a sizzling mist, where no one can see

your pole unfurl and flap

you can’t colonize the clouds

grasp the sublimated, mechanize the molten

good luck remoulding tephra and ash

to the whims of order and utility

the goddess of love… 

remains aloof and untouchable

yet in her isolation 

          the sylph sings 

a beguiling but elusive siren 

a coy trickster

she writhes a syncopated serpentine

weaves silky ribbons and stays

not to be unlaced

bathed by solar tempests

galvanized in the heat

Venus forges an ethereal 

but unforgiving shield

bruising and scalding the clutches 

           of would-be voyageurs and conquistadors

Pryde, you have a wonderful way of combining the real and the fantasy, human traits (positive or negative), and myths and mythos within human possibility and imagination. There are many worlds in our universe/cosmos, but so far, only one that we know of has evolved thinking creatures who can reach for the stars. In our minds, we create monsters or sirens out of inanimate objects, giving them human emotions. And by doing so, we find our humanity and create art in all its forms. We also discover that there are worlds where humans will never belong or live. But we will never lose our desire for knowledge, to know the unknown.

Hi pryde

Very interesting to know your books. Yes people struggled so much for their life. Well claps are with two palms joined. When one does whole lot what is other doing?? Does it not be shsred. Anyhow i left to fate i hav more serious problems than having sex to enjoy. And my lover my man my husband is safer with me. A bug can eat fruit till it gets the food to eat. Once that ia finished it will look for another.

If at all i were to look for sex then we would hav not been untouchables. This is what we are and world knows about us. Else hindu gods never given respect in temples.

Hav you read recent news about killing of united healtg care insurance company CEO by 26 yr old guy. I was hav serious issues with that ceo and was angry on him how he is using people money never paying claim reimbursements but someone got shot him dead. See many people have problems with others someone or other will definitely take action..

Anyhow i hav problem with sastry and many others too where she was involved. Definitely someone will take action i will do whatever i can.

Coming to small and easier first.. no sir i am pointing at right real big and the only short.

This is not a chess game to plsy politically this is real honest war like self destruction when it comes no ayudha remained what is remained is you to destroy evil.

Indeed it is the deeper and lasting connections that have real value; who can blame poor Venus for shielding her affections; perhaps one day she will find a true mate, like our moon:)

I really amazed at your thoughts so crytal clear. I couldnt dare to walk on those roads but definitely the happiest night i wiuld so that noone get control to say anything to me being having some fun.

I am having things which i felt more close to me here in this city more than my hometown. But i do miss watching those eyes.

There are two ways one is good and one is bad. Obviously two different persons they are.

One would say moon is cool and bright on full moon. Though there are spots it looks beautiful with those.
Another would say there are dark spots. They make it look weird.

I want to say that how much ever they look good thry pinpoint something mak8ng them look ugly by their angle of bad thinking.
We will say god is great but few say god is great because we are so inferior.

Breaking boundaries is possible but breaking lovers is a sin which ruin your own love life.

Never mind the white whales, now Pryde is waxing lyrical about monsters; with no Captain Ahab - or brave warrior to save us from her exotic word tapestry.! And yet, it actually makes sense..!

Well, to fellow writers and fans; it makes sense. This poem discusses the nature of seeking glory, and how related motives may not necessarily be; as they might at first seem.

So easily, people try out the "low hanging fruit"; before actually putting themselves in real danger. So long as, their end goals are still achievable - of attaining glory, pillage; and plunder! Those objectives often being referred to, as the "spoils of war"...

And yet, men stand proudly, planting their patriotic flags - as if to say that patriotism is their sole heroic goal.!

Such trickery, and hypocrisy! But, love has nothing to do with this; so the goddess of love "remains aloof and untouchable". I don't blame her.!

Indeed, Venus (that goddess of love); remains defiant with her "unforgiving shield". But, as gods do; she goes the extra mile. Not only, refusing to forgive these toy soldiers for their fake tom foolery heroics; but also bruising and scalding the very clutches of these people..! So, she's thorough too.! Evidently, putting that old frying pan to good use.! Clearly, very modern in her ways; and one hell of a proactive feminist deity. You read it here, first..!

I really enjoyed this review. Indeed any woman capable of being conquered is not woman worth trying to conquer ... but I jest. I think Venus is just looking for her match and then maybe she will cool down enough to nurture life. Wouldn't that be amazing?
