Gravity, Fractals, and the Heavenly, Poetry Blog

A Poem by Pryde Foltz
"

A trip into my mind through my poetry and reflections. I discuss space, spacetime, physics, fractals and their connection to everything. I will get existentially romantic.

"

Gravity, Fractals, and the Heavenly

This time out I offer two poems for the price of one, three for those that listen in. There is also some existential chat on offer, featuring science-type talk. I even get cosmically romantic. For those that prefer to read, scroll on down.

Gravity Takes the Stand

I could fly; I could fly, you proudly proclaim

Flap all you like furless, featherless ape

Only your head will ever inflate

Birds know to fly only so high

You’d reach beyond the sky

And into space ... internal combust

Your guts all over the place

It’s true; I tie limbs to the Earth

Mire in mud; cover in filth

I hold you down with an invisible glove

But care I do; granted, it’s a tough love

***

Astronomical Heavy and Heavenly

collision, fusion

opposite attract

but in the absence of options

a positive spin is better

than nothing

will eventually
lead to everything

sprawling
gravitational
eternal balance
radiative

the most primal of unions

a helical waltz through

the plasmic folds of spacetime

atomic love nest
a periodic nursery
a smelter's furnace

depending on how big you are
how fast you fall and in what direction

true love
according to the bard
is written in the stars

conceived unconditionally
among the astronomical
heavy and heavenly

undefined and enlightened

Gravity Takes the Stand is published in Monsters, Avatars, and Angels. Astronomical, Heavy, and Heavenly is published in Domesticate the Heaves. Please visit my blog to further explore the accompanying photos and essay, some bonus poetry, and keep up-to-date with all my writing.

I feel like your poems here could be read as being written to someone or as being written by the forces of nature themselves. It’s a cool dynamic. I like your focus on things that are bigger than us, out of our control. Those are the things we must face, whether love or gravity or any number of others, that we become helpless in the face of. You have a strong voice in your work.

Einstein should be proud reading these offerings; it is beyond my pay grade this science stuff. I like how you share the tough love with us.
