The Circumference Dissected

by the Diameter

psychic fracture
one foot mired in fugue
the mind myriad and partitioned
the circumference
dissected by the diameter

aren't you clever
with your half figures

figure, fugue, and figure
mad mathematician
pi split by anything
can be divided eternally
time to do nothing

no, really chill a bit
let perspective reveal itself

give up your lunatic-fringe cycling
hopping about on your uni-pedal
upon zirconia-studded cement
your head in coal black clouds
determined to change the world
viewed through your dirty spy lens

deeply perturbed
through pursed lips
you protest
armed with evidential parchment
a rotting tome of detritus
a worm-holed record of the past
scientifically supported, doomsday promises
statistical lies, clips taken out of context

act, figure, fugue, and act
a runaway greenhouse
now simmering in your blood

why not escape the heat

visit sites of ancient destruction
salvage anthropological feats
of the your ancestors
of those you fight

entourage in tow
streams of pilgrims, head-tonsured
prayer beads signalling to tribe

click, click, scroll, and click

the demands ... of amoral apothecaries
fair-weather activists and pneumatics influencers
turn your back on disagreeable kin
lest they change your mind
loosen the grip of the bespectacled for hire

bustle through burning streets
with your similarly attired in-crowd
agree totally with your chosen family
replace your values with ideology

no, they are not the same, my love

wallow in the furious din
squabbling gulls, quayside mongers
at least you are doing something

shout out a rant, shrink perspective

***

Or ... take a colonnaded walk
through arched porticoes. imagined gardens
pleasingly rubbled and antique precincts

time to spring clean
the house of life
shut out insistence

the key, think nothing
allow, sit, restful in the folds
of your saffron robe

nap under a shady tree
expand segmented palaces
dissolve the mental walls

the circumference given dimension
diameter still divided, but now multiplied
infinite radii makes the circle whole
expand creation within the fractals
give a home, even to the disagreeable

they do love you so

I like the duality in your poems. It’s almost like an internal dialogue but could also be a dialogue between opposing natural forces. I also like your use of scientific and mathematical concepts. These concepts are natural poetry though sometimes seen as cold truths. I like to see them brought to life creatively. Nice work.

What can I say Pryde but brilliant. Love the depth and was captivating from start to finish. This is like the Rubik’s cube of poetry. In awe!

You are welcome dear Pryde.
Pryde, as I read through this poem of yours, I thought, critique and reflection... I think as we move through life we meet many how see the world one sidedly, and we ourselves also find we have strident thinking. But if this is true, so is our ability, as well as others to learn from life experiences. And especially if we are able to take time to see inside what we encounter, we become more whole, more humane and see how everything is connected and how to change the world around us, including influencing positively those around us. There is a Native American saying: you are known by the tracks you leave. Pryde, your pen and voice are magic and the tracks you leave have insight. Thank you for sharing.

I like that. Yes, the tracks we leave. A wonderful reflection you have left. Thank you so much:)
There's so much word play in here, and many different cryptic meanings for your readers; and sometimes - even meanings hidden within other meanings. Not to mention, a plethora of suggestive metaphors; to drown even your more experienced readers..? A guy is mentioned in passing, with a "dirty spy lense". But, is his lense dirty because of dirty thoughts! Or, is it general perception of everything around him; distorted by that dirt? In several key 🗝️ lines, it does seem as if you have critiqued some guy; maybe a friend or former lover (or even both). Or even, a composite character? Thanks for sharing, and your "read requests" remain welcome.

Thank you so much. It means a lot to me that you enjoyed the work:)
This wonderful poem calls on humans to empty the mind in a clean slate; start anew and don't listen to the monkey minds. Wear those saffron robes, meditate, think positively, reap the spiritual benefits.
Benefits instead of fits of rage.
I love it!
