Choose Your Darkness

worship the darkness

the kind that consumes

messily, but glamorously

shooting pneumatic jets

beyond photonic eons

they don't call it an event horizon for nothing

the show is spectacular, but it does drag one

choose your darkness

for choose you must

watch a singularity

use up lesser stellar bodies

the flush of the drain must be maintained

the beast must be fed or it evaporates

sublimates and turns to elemental dust

lust over lesser luminaries gyrations

altered bodies, dimmed in the detritus of the gourmand

but still alight in neon, buoyant in silicone

adore filtered perfections and lensed tweaks

dance, little starlet

make it rain in comas heads

impressions and clicks

hail rogue planets

or worship the dark

a cold, speckled blanket

with little attraction

a velvet jewel box

for lapis and sapphires to nestle

safe, magnetic, and protected

nurtured and rested in the quiet

alive and reproducing

a dark will have you

at least some of the time

which will it be

a dark that shares with the light

grants dreams in newly-created realms

projected on your plumped pillows

emitted under naturally-lashed eyelids

or that which devours

or if you are lucky, spits you out

once your shine has been used up

but before you've been

entirely consumed

Choose your darkness

for choose you must

I choose the darkness that "consumes messily" and shoots "pneumatic jets beyond photonic eons". I choose love over hate, life and diversity (yes found even in the event horizon of a spiraling black hole), over ego and individualism... the choices we make determine who we are. we may be 'singularities', but we also make a difference with our actions.

These are the things I thought about reading your wonderful poem Pryde. I have always enjoyed reading your words and in this case also hearing your voice.

Amazing verbal poetry and words shared dear Pryde. You need to be my example. I need to get published. I have 2600 poems and 12 completed stories and three needing a deep edit. It is hard work to get your work appreciated. I have some free time now. I wish you great success my dear friend.

i won't even pretend i understood half of that, however, from reading this i feel your love of astronomy. science in general is extremely interesting, but learning about the stars and event horizons really makes you wonder about your place in the universe. it makes us feel small but also good; that is called awe. yet in this infinite space, we still have the capacity to choose. even if there's only darkness in space, we can still choose, and that is an empowering statement.

Gadzooks.! I didn't know, that you sometimes went in for a touch of the surreal; and this seems like one big dose! Well, I guess it's partly saying - that we all have our own form of darkness; which appeals to us. And, it can manifest in different ways. This is not surprising, because people have such different perceptions; about the world 🌎 around us. More typically or your writing (perhaps), you have also made various references to the cosmos. Those add a little glitter and starshine (so to speak), to dress up your key points more eye-catchingly..? You're a good ✍️ writer, and a versatile one. You can send me plenty more "read requests", for me to review.

Thank you, Thomas:)
An amazing scientific, philosophical poem. It conjures the vastness of the black hole which comprises the majority of the universe and where light can't escape those clutches. Lots of mystery needs to be unlocked as you seem to have a grasp on these amazing phenomenon.
Grasp knowledge or you will drown in ignorance.

Wow! You are welcome Pryde.
The first story was humorous and enjoyable.
Politics will probably always be contentious, but I like the way you orated the story. Us and Them, it was never so true before in the modern world we're living in now.
Choose your darkness was a bit of a dictionary-needed poem for sure, but interesting. Your diction is top-notch.

Your political ending was spot on, if you ask me.

Enjoyed.
