Spider, Come to Her

a spider was not meant to swim
eight spindly legs, do poorly as fins

come to her, instead

perhaps our leggy-lady
could float upon the surface
her limbs turned to oars
rowing until her fur, waterlogged
plunges to the sea floor
an anchor, amorphous

no, a spider was not meant to swim
eight spindly limbs, do poorly as aquatic fins

a spider was given threads, to weave and to create
such beauty, even the garish papillion comes to her
re-cocooned and clad in silk before consumed

a spider was not meant to swim
eight spindly legs, do poorly as fins

come to her, instead

perhaps our leggy-lady
could float upon the surface
her limbs turned to oars
rowing until her fur, waterlogged
plunges to the sea floor
an anchor, amorphous

no, a spider was not meant to swim
eight spindly limbs, do poorly as aquatic fins

a spider was given threads, to weave and to create
such beauty, even the garish papillion comes to her
re-cocooned and clad in silk before consumed

Spiders and spider webs always fascinated me with their intricate work and creativity: I feel that God created every creature for a purpose in this world-wide web. You have touched on the philosophical aspects behind all of that in this marvelous poem.

That's certainly different.! I think that you captured well, how a spider moves and behaves. Also, imagined what it might be able to do; teasing the reader a bit. So, is there a philosophical side within this piece.? Possibly, the capacity of a living creature to adapt; or not to do so. But, why change for the sake of it? As suggested in this poem, that spider already has adapted; to using his limbs and bodily features - as nature intended. Naturally, it might also make us think about the capacity of humans to try and adapt; or not. According to our circumstances, of course. The spider was given threads, "to weave and create". So, us humans should use our hands appropriately too; to create and sustain day to day living. And, of course; use our particularly special tools to - er procreate too..? Anyway, enough said; lest Pryde adapts usage of an arm limb to assail me with the nearest frying pan...! Well, that would be adaptability in action too; of a kind.?

I'll never throw a spider in the toilet again. lol
I like the repetition as it states the point before further pointing out the spiders rough life as a swimmer. :)

Good poem, Pryde. Like it.
