The dancer leapt upon the stage Wheat-coloured hair flowed straight Through sunny-peach shoulders ...

Author's Note

Pryde Foltz
Monsters, Avatars, and Angels contains the short story series Demons, Harlots and Crones, which follows two generations of the Demeere family and its legacy of spite and envy. Included in the series is Demon in High Socks; Holler it out with Lemonade; the Old Lady, Her Plymouth, and Cockroaches; Sex in a Pan; and the Fire Crone and Stone Harlot. Also within its pages are more than a hundred poems exploring the darker side of human nature and its undeniable conclusion. Two Orphan Sparrows, the Devil is a DJ, the Last Striptease, Up From the Roses, and many more titles are found within. Ultimately Monsters, Avatars, and Angels asks the reader to look at the darkness found within herself and by facing it, perhaps go beyond.

superbly spoke, and written. while this is poetry, you certainly have understood the art of setting a scene, and now wonder your prose game is en point. this cute little story with the twist towards the end was full of cheeky goodness. i smiled listening to the audio and cheered on the female persona. i was happy with her and for her. another hit.

I love this. Your spoken word with the background music is beautiful, inspiring. The theme, everything about it. Very impressive and a job well done.

I can only imagine the Words dancing...
entwining around other Words with
different feelings... but always with Passion.

Thank you so much, Pat:)
This is the first time I enjoyed listening to poetry. First, it's becuz you speak slowly enuf for me to catch & absorb all the words . . . second, becuz you give us written words, as well. I can't process what I hear as well as what I see, so seeing words helped me follow your speaking voice better. You have a great voice. You do an amazing job of synchronizing music, word sounds, meaning, & the modulation of your voice. This goes together so well, it makes me want to try it (I won't!) Thanks for sharing (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

its amazing what some people can do with veils these days:) I was envisioning Sally Rand in full regalia and then you pulled the rug out from under my mind's eyes and somehow the old lady looked more beautiful to me in the end. you are always a constant source of humanities pryde

:) ......................
Wonderful poem and reading. Highly skilled and powerful. I take it as we all wear masks and veils. We use them for survival and our living in this world. Some veils come off in certain times revealing the hidden truths. We like to show the world what we like to. Hard to face reality.

So true, Sami. We are always revealing more of ourselves as the veils slip and fall. Thanks so much .. read more

Wow! You are welcome....
I find this sad as sad.. .. Perhaps the woman was longing for what she had had, perhaps the audience could admit to being present as voyeurs, perhaps illusions are what life is about and if disillusionment results, whose fault is that? Just my take on your dramatic and fine as fine writing, Pryde.. plus the gentle stresses, intonation, that you use in your reading. Your work is a pleasure to read.. and more. x
