In this episode I look at why you do not have to give up your intellect to be spiritual. I'm talking to you, atheists:) Included are the poems Two Orphan Sparrows and How Not to Get Lost in the Cosmos.
Your words have a way of their own, Pryde. This wasn't brash or anything like most when addressing atheists. Like ANTO said, '..persuasive and polished.' I love the poems and the way yo interconnect the vastness of the subject to a simple life story is a true work of a writer's wit. I believe in religion and I believe in science.. like Dr. Radhakrishnan said that science and religion go hand in hand. Each are required to keep the other in check yet encourage.
It's been months since I went to a temple or did a proper puja but I have no problem believing in Him. I say religion gives a beauty which is indescribable but one to be experienced. It's more of hope than the ritual for me.
I'm not sure about organised religion though. It tends to melt into forced religion but a steady organisaton is required, one which can accept and be steadfast. Also, I like what Pushkar suggests. This is a brilliant work, Pyrde. I wish for your faith to be stronger than ever :)
I thought this would fit here.. "Poetic truth is different from scientific truth since it reveals the real in its qualitative uniqueness and not in its quantitative universality. Poetry is the language of the soul, while prose is the language of science. The former is the language of mystery, of devotion, of religion. Prose lays bare its whole meaning to the intelligence, while poetry plunges us in the mysterium tremendum of life and suggests the truths that cannot be stated." - Dr. S. Radhakrishnan. I searched for that one quote on science and religion I wanted to share but came short. Thought this might do, too :)
Thank you for sharing..
always entertaining and inspiring ... makes me want discussion at a round table to cover all the thoughts you trigger .. just not enough room here ;)
piewipe!! you must be kidding!! how can it sound obscene when its required after consuming such a treat?!
discussions with atheists is not easy .. i have found (in limited experience) they have arrived at their stand after disappointments and personal loss of hope .. which inspires anger and resentment when confronted with .. well .. like you say .. the cosmos :)
love the sparrows .. one flew and the other adapted .. while listening i kept wondering if the cukoo bird would hatch and kick them both to their doom .. but that would be the end of them all as no parents would arrive to feed the beast

What a show! Fun, intelligence, beauty, warm & fuzzy story, a universe to share with the souls on Earth. I love it all Pryde as I'm beginning to love you in our distant horizon!

Al
P.S. Yes I knew about God but I too found disdain for organized religion.

hmmm.......that was awesome!!!
let me argue though that atheism, true atheism does not rule out god or superior spiritual existence, rather it searches for one more passionately than priests........you can check out quora(that is if you have time for nothing else!! ;p)
which means you are right......you can be atheist and spiritual at the same time.......no need to be a 'believer' or religious.
amazing video as always!!!
i loved it!!!!
