Yes, emotions are part of our make up and our rational thought brings with it logic. We need both. The heart and mind must meet. I think that they must balance each other. They should complement each other rather than one overshadowing the other.We are mind and body not separate entities, however, they often act on different planes. When we meditate we meld the two and there is where we find peace and our higher plane of thought. Our mind growth must be open as it is with all things. Ego is not superfluous, nor is it vestigial, instead it serves its purpose to move us forward in a world crowded with billions. We must have some sense of self-preservation.I wonder what a world without egos might be like? People wondering where to go or what to do next...or would we be led by our id lost in pleasure only to be chastised consistently by our superegos? As in all things the balance of all we are is the key to determining who we can become. And if our mind growth is open then we are always becoming. We must reflect upon why we are here and what we can do to make this place and the people in it a bit better for having known us body, mind and soul.

Thank you, IcyBlue … Some wonderful thoughts … I have been experimenting with be guided by spirit but without giving up sell-preservation and truly enjoying as much as I can as many moments as I can … my ego and its connection to fear-based thoughts is still there … but less and less so as I do not give into the behaviour inspired by fear based thinking …

interesting for sure .. he was a brilliant thinker and innovator in many areas .. so much fodder for discussion eh!? its intriguing that meditative states of "no mind" do not necessitate ones demise .. i think therefore i am makes a lot of sense to me on a lot of levels .. but consciousness is the real bugger eh!?

ego and evolution, I guess we all deal with our ego`s
and my take on evolution is that we seem to progress in a circle
as if we we`re chasing our tails, and the thought that we think
what we are might not be to far fetched ,I mean there`s a lot of
teaching on p m a love the mosquito theme and we are all carriers
but they don`t seem to worry about it,just accept life as it is we on the other hand have those ego things lol

Thank you, Ron. The way things usually go is that eventually the suffering caused by being ruled by one's ego catches up and the individual faces a crises … transcend or die. Of course …. we could teach our children and then the suffering need not be such a vital ingredient to transcendence … but part of transcendence is an acceptance that all processes must be given the time to take their proper course. I don't know if you remember my haiku 'fiery winter rose' … but in short there is no point in blooming in the winter. Find it for yourself and let everyone else take their own course. Love ya:)

well you are right pryde,it`s all in the teaching,but as parents and teachers we all differ
and some are consumed with ego`s and are not fit to teach the professor on the news for instance she sees hitler as a hero figure, and she probally transends this message to her students
and her children a message of hate and racial discrimination I have a smart pizza man

As usual I got the chuckles by the pop ups (especially the Mr Bacon series) - you really looked super professional too. Real interesting discussions of the ego. opened new avenues of thought on that score for me. I look forward to Friday with Pryde now.

The Old Sounds

We had egos that seemed secondary to our souls. When the morning's shine fell upon us we listened all day to its silent words. It's the old sounds, the wind in the trees, running water, the insects and the very air that surrounded our souls. The very old sounds kept us together.
Today the blather reinforces our egos.
